Reflecting on your journey since receiving the 2021 Outstanding High School Entrepreneur Award from TBHF, how has your vision for FLIFER Technologies evolved?

Receiving the 2021 High School Entrepreneur Award was the catalyst that transformed FLIFER Technologies from a cryptocurrency mining business to a diversified technology corporation. Since receiving my award from TBHF, I have earned $600,000 in crypto profits, become a top 1% cryptocurrency mining operation, and have a greater graphics processing capacity than NASA.

My vision has expanded past just crypto, though. I have used my mining profits to fund the development of a 100 MW solar plant, FLIFER Solar, powering 10,000 homes in Texas. I have also invented my own crypto coin, FLIFERCOIN, which has 1,526 holders and an estimated $42 million market capitalization.

You founded FLIFER at age 14 with your sister Aanya. How did you become interested in cryptocurrency? How has your family supported your entrepreneurial aspirations?

My interest in cryptocurrency began during a bedtime story with my family. My father told me and my sister about Bitcoin. I watched some YouTube videos on it and became intrigued. My sister and I noticed that cryptocurrency prices had recently increased exponentially, and we couldn’t resist trying it.

We did not have enough money to buy Bitcoin, so we decided to learn how to mine it. At first, we used my gaming computer, which made us $3 on the first day. After realizing the potential of that, my family helped me and my sister by buying graphics cards for us. Soon we had scaled to over 212 graphics cards and were generating over $30,000 in monthly profits.

Balancing high-level entrepreneurship with schoolwork can be incredibly demanding. How do you manage your time effectively between running FLIFER Technologies, your leadership roles, and academic excellence?

Managing a multi-million-dollar business as a freshman in high school was challenging. Academics always came first.

Because cryptocurrency is such a volatile industry, it was crucial to use my free time to stay updated on market trends to ensure I never fell back on new market trends. I did this mostly through YouTube videos and online crypto-mining tutorials.

As President of the Frisco High School CryptoClub, you’re mentoring other students. What are you learning about leadership from mentoring others?

Mentoring my peers in starting their own crypto ventures has taught me the intersection of knowledge and leadership. In CryptoClub, we value spreading ideas while still having fun. Not many students have an understanding of cryptocurrencies that I do. I hope that CryptoClub can help other students navigate the intimidating world of crypto in a fun way, so everyone sees the amazing potential of crypto like I do.

Guiding my peers has reinforced my own knowledge through teaching.

Are there any specific industries or technologies that you’re eager to explore further? Looking forward, where do you see yourself in the next five years?

I am eager to explore advances in renewable energy and the medical field. I was invited to speak at a renewable energy conference in Japan in February this year. The opportunity to present my ideas was a prize in itself.

I plan to expand FLIFER Technologies into the medical industry. In the next 5 years, I see myself leading projects that utilize FLIFER’s innovative strategies in different fields. I also plan to pursue a degree in Business and Medicine to fill my knowledge gap so that I can help introduce things like new vaccines and healthcare solutions.

I also plan to continue advocating for youth entrepreneurship. After realizing how rewarding it felt to be recognized by TBHF when I won the High School Entrepreneur Award, I strived to help other entrepreneurs like myself by recognizing them too. The result: “The Ishaan Thakur Outstanding High School Entrepreneur Award”, an annual high school entrepreneurship award, named after my company, to recognize young entrepreneurs by the Texas Hall of Fame and encourage more students to take entrepreneurial risks and make a difference in the business industry.
