Ashok Rao is a serial entrepreneur with 5 successful start-ups of his own. He is an Angel Investor in several start-ups, mentoring the founders, and serving on their boards.

Principal Investor and Chairman of several early stage ventures including Forest Devices (developing cutting edge technology for early detection of strokes in the Ambulance); WCB Robotics, (developing non-contact suction technology for skyscraper window cleaning robots); Saviance Technologies (Healthcare IT with several large pharma clients); NanoGraf (a cutting edge battery technology company, developing a new generation of batteries based on graphene and silicon); and recently sold Adhesys Medical Inc. (which developed a game changing bio-degradable surgical adhesive for topical and in-vivo use) to a large German pharma company. He is also the Chairman of BioMed X Inc. – an innovative concept that permits big-Pharma to outsource its innovation.

Retired as Chairman of TIE Global in 2014 – he stewarded this organization for 4 years. It is the world’s largest organization of entrepreneurs with 15,000 members in 18 countries. He is a member of the prestigious GOOSE Society of Texas, founded by Silicon Valley legend Dr. Jack Gill and Compaq founder Rod Canion.

One of the first Indian Americans to take a company public on NASDAQ.Founder & CEO ofMidcom Communications, in 5 years he grew the company to $250 million, culminating in a successfulIPO in July 1995. Shared the “News-Maker of the Year” award in 1994 from the Seattle Times, with Starbucks founder Howard Schultz.

Also, CEO of Excalibur Pictures, he has produced four feature films and one documentary, including the multiple award-winning period piece/drama “Before the Rains”, that secured a worldwide theatrical release in May 2008, and the award-winning thriller “The Whisperers” (in 2009).

He was honored by his Alma Mater, Marquette University, with the prestigious “Distinguished Alumnus of the Year” award in 2008, and by APAHA with the “George H.W. Bush award for Arts Achievement” in 2009. He guest lectures at Rice University.  He holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Delhi, an MS from Marquette University and a diploma in Financial Management from the London School of Economics.
