J. Luther King, Jr. is President, CEO, and Founder of Luther King Capital Management (LKCM), which he established in 1979. Today the firm is a nationally recognized investment management company with offices in Fort Worth, Austin, San Antonio, and Dallas. As of late 2025, LKCM manages approximately $30.5 billion in assets, serving high-net-worth individuals, and institutional clients.

Born in Odessa, Texas, King began his professional career in 1963 as a credit analyst at First National Bank of Fort Worth. In 1973, he joined Lionel D. Edie & Company as Director of the Dallas office. After deciding not to relocate to New York, the company was sold, and King founded LKCM.

King has played a significant leadership role in both the investment industry and higher education. He is a founding member of the Strategic Advisory Board of the CFA Society (DFW) and previously served as Chairman of the Investment Adviser Association, Chairman of the Investment Advisory Committee for the Trustees of the Employees Retirement System of Texas, Vice Chairman of the Board of the University of Texas Investment Management Company, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Texas Christian University. In 2002, he established the LKCM Center for Financial Studies at TCU’s Neeley School of Business.

King has served on numerous corporate boards, including five publicly traded companies. A Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), he received the Daniel J. Forrestal III Leadership Award for Professional Ethics from the CFA Institute.

King earned both his B.S.C. and M.B.A. from TCU where he received a Doctor of Letters, honoris causa, and Distinguished Alumnus.  In 2011, he and his wife, Teresa, received TCU’s Royal Purple Award.  He served in the Air Force Reserves and was honorably discharged in 1968.  He and his wife, Teresa, have two sons, Bryan and Mason, both principals at LKCM.
