TBHF BOARD OF DIRECTORS
THE BETA FOUNDATION
FOUNDER & SUPERINTENDENT
HOUSTON
Latisha Andrews is an educational leader who has transformed opportunities for scholars in southeast Houston. Once a struggling reader who repeated second grade, she pushed through those early challenges, graduated summa cum laude with an MBA, and later became a first grade teacher. That experience showed her the power of phonics and lit the fire to make sure no child faces the hurdles she did.
In 2010, Andrews opened a low cost private K to 6 school in an underserved community. She partnered with Responsive Education Solutions in 2013 to launch a charter school that earned four distinction designations in its first year. In 2015, she founded Beta Academy with 480 scholars. Today, the school serves 1,539 scholars with more than 600 on the waiting list.
Beta Academy has earned statewide recognition, including the Texas Education Agency Honor Roll. Children At Risk ranked it in the top ten school districts in Houston, top 35 elementary schools, and the number one middle school in the city. Visitors are drawn to its joyful rigor, immersive classrooms, and strong scholar culture.
Andrews has helped bring $97 million in educational facilities to southeast Houston through school bonds, philanthropy, and a $22 million Joy Campaign. She has maintained a Superior Financial Rating for eight consecutive years while growing annual revenue from $30,000 to more than $16 million and creating 210 quality jobs.
She serves on the advisory board for the College of Science and Engineering at Houston Christian University and is a Governor appointed member of the State Board for Educator Certification. In 2024, she was named one of Houston Woman Magazine’s Most Influential Women. Andrews continues to lead with clarity, courage, and a deep belief that every child deserves an excellent education.
