Craig is Co-Founder and General Partner of Moonshots Capital, an Austin-based venture capital firm investing in early-stage startups, many founded by military veteran entrepreneurs or advancing critical national security technologies. Before entering venture capital full-time, Craig co-founded and exited two companies: BTS in the defense sector and RideScout in mobility and transportation.
His current and recent board service includes Outpost Space, Cartwheel, Proteus Space, Ghostdog (merged with Mission Essential), Shep (acquired by Flight Center), Zabo (acquired by Coinbase), ReturnLogic, Threatcare (acquired by Reliaquest), Realize Me (acquired by The Asprey Group), BTS, and Stealth Power. Since 2016, Craig has been Special Advisor for Military and Veterans Affairs at Capital Factory, Texas’s hub for entrepreneurs, and he also advises the Brumlee Institute for Graduate Entrepreneurship at the University of Texas–Austin.
Craig served 17 years in the U.S. Army, primarily as an Intelligence Officer supporting the National Security Agency. He deployed to Afghanistan with Joint Special Operations Command, earning the Bronze Star, and later taught political science at West Point. He holds a B.S. in Political Science from the U.S. Military Academy, where he was the first Truman Scholar, and a Ph.D. in Political Science from Columbia University.
Recognized among HillVets’ 100 most influential veterans and Inc. Magazine’s Top 20 Military Veteran Entrepreneurs, Craig was named a Future Texas Veteran Legend by the Texas Business Hall of Fame in 2023 and included in Future Union’s “Intrepid List” of Top 100 Investors in 2024. He is also a Henry Crown Fellow with the Aspen Institute. Craig lives in Austin with his wife, Lawton Posey Cummings, and their two children, Addison and Cooper.
