John B. Poindexter is a distinguished military veteran, entrepreneur, and leader in land conservation and historic preservation. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with honors from the University of Arkansas and completed his MBA and Ph.D. in economics and finance at New York University. A third‑generation Texan, his career spans service, enterprise, and stewardship.

Following his undergraduate education, John volunteered for the United States Army and Officer Candidate School, serving in the Republic of South Vietnam. His leadership was recognized with two Silver Stars, two Purple Hearts, the Soldier’s Medal, two Bronze Stars, and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Silver Star. In 2009, his Vietnam command, Alpha Troop of the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation for extraordinary heroism during a historic rescue mission.

After his military service, John built a distinguished career in investment banking and private equity before founding J.B. Poindexter & Co., Inc. (JBPCO), a Houston‑based manufacturing company. Under his stewardship, the company has grown into a global enterprise, employing several thousand team members producing industry‑leading commercial truck bodies, delivery vehicles, and providing engineering expertise. JBPCO products are integral to the essential delivery networks that sustain modern commerce, enable life-saving emergency response, and ensure the safe transport of food and medical supplies.

Beyond business, John has devoted decades to conservation and historic preservation. In the Big Bend region of West Texas, he has restored 30,000 acres of land and historic forts, earning national and state historic designations. He was honored by the Borderlands Research Institute as West Texas Conservationist of the Year for his stewardship of the region. He later led significant preservation efforts in Tidewater Virginia and, in 2020, established the Tidewater and Big Bend Foundation to advance this work.
