David B. Miller is Co-Founder and Partner of EnCap Investments, L.P., the leading provider of private equity capital to the oil and gas industry.

Miller attended Southern Methodist University on a basketball scholarship and played for the Mustangs 1972 Southwest Conference Championship team. He received his BBA and MBA from SMU in 1972 and 1973.

Miller has served on the Board of Trustees at SMU since 2008 and currently serves as Chairman. He received Distinguished Alumni Awards from both SMU and the Cox School of Business and was honored with the Silver Anniversary Mustang Award by the SMU Lettermen’s Association.

Miller began his career as an energy lender with Republic Bank of Dallas. In 1980, he co-founded MAZE Exploration, where he served as Co-CEO until its sale in 1986. In 1987 he partnered with legendary oilman, Frank Pitts, in the formation of PMC Reserve Acquisition Co.

In the midst of a global energy crisis, Miller wrote the business plan for and co-founded EnCap Investments. EnCap has raised 25 funds and managed $43 billion. It has been instrumental in the formation, capitalization, and growth of some 250 independent energy companies.

Miller is a member of the National Petroleum Council and has been inducted into the Rocky Mountain Oil and Gas Hall of Fame, the Dallas Business Hall of Fame, and the Oil and Gas Investors magazine’s Hall of Fame. He received the L. Frank Pitts Energy Leadership Award from the Maguire Energy Institute.

Miller serves on the Board of Directors of the George W. Bush Foundation, UT Southwestern Medical Foundation, Methodist Health System Foundation, the National Association of Basketball Coaches Foundation, and chaired the Boards of Goodwill Industries and The Senior Source of Greater Dallas. He was honored with the Volunteer Center’s Lifetime Achievement Award and recognized by Methodist Health System Foundation with the Robert S. Folsom Leadership Award.
